King of the Mods - Tutorial by thestalkycop

Go from this tutorial by thestalkycop to this tutorial by thestalkycop in... uh, six? seven? easy steps using PSP7, though, as my tutorials always are, it's probably easily translatable.

Notes:
All layers are at 100% opacity, unless otherwise stated.
I'm assuming everyone knows how to duplicate a layer.

Desaturate means to make a layer black and white. This is how:
Adjust > Hue/Saturation/Lightness with these settings:
Edit: Master
Hue: 0
Saturation: -100
Lightness: 0
(or click this link to see what you’re supposed to be looking at).
(I know this is obvious, but it's something I'm always asked!)
tutorial by thestalkycop First I started with this base of the delightful Boosh boys from my site, The Boosh Slash Haven, cropped and sharpened twice, leave me with this:

Uck, dark.
tutorial by thestalkycop Simple fix, duplicate the layer and set it to screen.
tutorial by thestalkycop Right, now merge. Then do the obligatory Exclusion layer. I used #000040.
tutorial by thestalkycop Merge again. Duplicate the layer and desaturate it, set it to Hard Light.
tutorial by thestalkycop Duplicate the desaturated layer and set it to screen.
tutorial by thestalkycop Now, for a nice border. I did a select all (Selections > Select All), then contracted the selection by 6px (Selections > Modify > Contract). Now, with all that selected, Copy Merged (Edit > Copy Merged) and Paste as a New Layer. Set it to Burn.
tutorial by thestalkycop Next I added text. I'll admit, I hate doing text, I can never think of anything interesting to put on there, or a nice font that works. Anyway, I just wrote "King of the Mods" in black, in font 04b24, 6px, anti-alias off, set to burn.

Then I hit the magic wand tool tutorial by thestalkycop and clicked on the layer that has the text on. Click anywhere except where the text is, now invert the selection (Selections > Invert), create a new layer and flood your selected bit with white (or whatever colour you want). Select None (Selections > Select None), and drag the white below the text. Gaussian Blur (Effects > Blur > Gaussian Blur) anything between 1 and 3 points.

And you're done.
